MSgt Carl McCoy



I am Master Sergeant (ret) Carl H. McCoy Jr. and I am an Aerospace Science Instructor or most people know it as Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC). enjoy being a part of this Congress-mandated program where cadets learn leadership, geography, civics, health, global awareness, life skills and U.S. history. The program focuses on leadership, core values, abilities, self-discipline and all cadets are better positioned to function in life itself after completing the course. I became a part of Stall’s JROTC program in August of 2012 after retiring from the military with 24 years of honorable and dedicated service in the United States Air Force.

During my military service I performed many key duty positions. As an Escort Program Manager, I developed and managed the Department of Defense’s largest military prisoner escort program that conducted armed long-range prisoner transport ensuring in-flight security on-board civilian aircraft. Additionally, I developed a Mobile Training Team for Advanced Aircraft Close Quarters Tactics which include plans for weapons and training qualification to meet stringent FAA/TSA requirements. As a Phoenix Raven Program Manager, I supervised and trained a 34 person section, which oversaw global protection for 50 C-17As and directed security for Department of Defense and Department of State missions to ensure safe worldwide transport of senior level officials and vital U.S. embassy cargo. As a Flight Chief I supervised 42 personnel that implemented security and law enforcement policies and procedures established to protect over $18 Billion in aerospace resources and directed responses to civil disorders and emergencies. Some additional key duties were Squad Leader, Airborne Insertion Team with 21 jumps, Tactical Security Fire Team leader, Airborne Fire Team Leader, Installation Crime Prevention Monitor, Installation Patrolman, and Unit Fitness Program Manager. 

Some of my education includes a Bachelor of Science in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University, a Professional Managers Certification from the Community College of the Air Force and an Associates in Criminal Justice from the Community College of the Air Force. Some additional professional development includes Air Force JROTC Instructor Certification, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education, Level I & II Controlled F.O.R.C.E and Verbal Judo Instructor, American Correctional Association Training for Trainers, USAF First Sergeant Academy Symposium, Senior Non Commissioned Officer Correspondence Course, Charleston PD Basic S.W.A.T., United States Army Airborne Course, Non Commissioned Officer Academy, Law Enforcement Craftsman, Ground Combat Skills NCO Course, Crime Prevention Practices and Theories at Eastern Kentucky University, and Airman Leadership School.

During my 24 years I deployed 13 times in support of many operations, some of which are Iraqi and Enduring Freedom, Southern and Northern Watch, Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Fiery Virgil. I was awarded the Bronze Star (presented by Vice President Dick Cheney), Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal (3), Air Force Achievement Medal (10), and Navy Achievement Medal. In addition I received the Joint Meritorious Unit Award (2), Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor (5), Combat Readiness Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal (7), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2), Iraq Campaign Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal (2).

Originally I am from Sikeston Missouri, I am married to my lovely wife Christy, I have one amazing daughter Lacey, and one beautiful granddaughter Austyn.
