R.B. Stall Welcomes New Executive Principal
Charleston County School District (CCSD) is excited to announce the appointment of Steve Larson as executive principal of R.B. Stall High School. Most recently, Larson supported high schools as the Interim Associate Superintendent.
Larson’s deep working knowledge of leading Title 1, bilingual schools at all levels resulted in his request to be considered for this opportunity. His appointment as executive principal will involve working with stakeholders to establish the district’s first Newcomer Center at Stall, a transition program for multilingual learners new to the country.
With 25 years of experience in education, Larson came to CCSD with a variety of both executive and school-based experiences. He has a rich background in bilingual education, special education, systems thinking, and leadership development.
Prior to his current work as the Interim Associate Superintendent of High Schools, Larson served as the principal of St. John’s High School for four years, during which time the school boasted significant increases in student enrollment and retention by addressing factors that contributed to student dropouts.
One of Larson’s primary areas of focus was student and staff well-being, ensuring St. John’s was a safe place for learning, as evidenced by a marked decrease in disciplinary referrals. Under his leadership, faculty and staff invested in restorative mindsets, common assessments, curriculum development, and systems to ensure that every student had an advocate, resulting in significant improvements in overall graduation rates.
